## A Look Back

A couple of things to cover here. I intend to write more on code and Web development going forward. As I began to post regular blogs I put down thoughts that came to me “on the fly.” This post will cover a quick review of January 2017, the first February post will focus primarily on some code I wrote a little while back.

**The Mysterious Island** – taking much longer to complete than I had intended. I’ll post a brief review when I finish. Overall there’s a pretty obvious pattern where a new scenario is introduced, clues to the final outcome, and generally a positive final outcome. Jules Verne is not short on details and I’m fascinated at some of the descriptions about geography, science and faith!

**Project Euler – completed 4,5,6 & 7.**

The first three problems I attempted were not too difficult. Problem 4 requires the largest palindrome product of *2 – 3 digit numbers*. Problem 5 requires the smallest positive number evenly divisible by all of the numbers from 1 to 20. Problem 6 requires the difference of the sum of the squares of the first 100 and the square of the sum of the first 100 numbers. Finally, problem 7 requires the 10001st prime number. Each problem required setting up interesting algorithms, but problem 7 presented a significant challenge because it requires a very high prime number. I spent significant time refining the algorithm for determining if a number is prime.
